A Simple Truth to Remember When God's Word is Hard to Understand
Practical encouragement for the days when Scripture seems confusing.
Have you ever read a passage in the Bible and thought, I have no idea what I just read?
Maybe you started your Bible reading plan with good intentions. Maybe you opened to a chapter everyone else seems to understand. Maybe you read the same verses three times and still felt lost.
If that has happened to you, you’re not failing. You’re doing something every Christian has done at one point or another. You’re learning.
One of the biggest misconceptions about the Christian life is that mature believers eventually reach a point where the Bible stops being challenging. This is so not true! No matter how long you’ve walked with God, there will always be more to discover about Him and His Word.
Confusion Is Not a Sign to Quit
Many women assume that confusion means they are doing Bible study wrong.
It doesn’t.
The Bible is God’s revelation of Himself. It is deep because God is deep. It contains history, poetry, prophecy, wisdom, letters, and teachings written across centuries.
Some passages are immediately clear. Others take time, study, and patience.
When you encounter a difficult passage, don’t see it as a roadblock.
See it as an invitation.
God is not frustrated by your questions.
He is not disappointed when you need to learn.
He welcomes those who seek Him.
Every Christian Is Still Learning
One of the most freeing truths you can embrace is that nobody graduates from learning God’s Word.
The woman who has been walking with Jesus for six months and the woman who has been walking with Him for sixty years are both still students.
Even experienced pastors, teachers, and Bible scholars continue discovering new insights in familiar passages. It’s not because God’s Word changes, but because the richness of the Bible is impossible to exhaust.
You do not need to know everything to benefit from Scripture.
You simply need to keep showing up to read and study.
Focus on What You Do Understand
When a passage feels confusing, don’t let the parts you don’t understand distract you from the parts that you do.
Ask yourself what is clear and try not to hyperfocus.
Maybe you don’t understand every detail, but you can clearly see God’s faithfulness. Maybe you can see a command to obey, a promise to trust, or a truth about God’s character.
Build your faith around what God has made plain while you continue learning the rest.
Too many believers stop reading because they encounter one difficult section.
Imagine refusing to eat an entire meal because one bite was unfamiliar.
I want to encourage you to keep going.
Good Bible Study Is Often Slow Bible Study
We live in a culture that values speed.
God often works through patience.
Sometimes growth happens when you sit with a passage for several days instead of several minutes. Sometimes understanding comes after reading the surrounding chapters. Sometimes it comes through prayer, study, and conversation with other believers.
When the Bible feels confusing, try these simple steps
Pray for understanding
Read the surrounding context
Compare other passages that discuss the same topic
Learning God’s Word is not a race. It is a lifelong relationship.
God’s Goal Is Not Just Information
It is easy to think Bible study is primarily about collecting knowledge.
But God’s ultimate goal is transformation.
You can understand every detail of a passage and still miss the point if it never changes how you live. At the same time, you can be growing deeply even while wrestling with questions.
The goal is not becoming the smartest person in the room.
The goal is becoming more like Christ.
Keep Reading Even When You Don’t Have Every Answer
Many women put their Bible aside because they feel inadequate. They think they need more knowledge before they can read.
The opposite is true.
You gain knowledge by reading.
You gain understanding by reading.
You grow in wisdom by reading.
Don’t wait until you feel confident.
Open God’s Word today and trust Him to teach you over time.
The God Who Wrote the Word Is Your Teacher
Remember the question we started with… What do you do when the Bible feels confusing?
You keep reading.
You keep learning.
You keep asking questions.
And you keep trusting God.
The woman who grows in God’s Word is not the woman who understands everything immediately. She is the woman who refuses to walk away when she doesn’t.
Years from now, you’ll look back and realize that some of your greatest growth happened in the seasons when you had questions and kept seeking anyway.
So the next time you read a passage and think, I have no idea what I just read, don’t close your Bible in frustration.
Open it again tomorrow. And again. And again!
Your Heavenly Father still has much to teach you, and that is a beautiful place to be.
